Recently, math has been causing anxiety to young children in the complexity of numbers and its concepts. Anxiety caused by math was found to activate the same areas that phobias do such as the phobia of heights or spiders. Exposure therapy is how these phobias are treated but can the same be said for anxiety caused by math?
A recent study on third-graders concluded that one-on-one tutoring helps calm kids of their fear and anxiety of dealing with numbers. Private tutoring helps improve a child’s school performance and it serves as an anxiety-reducer.
